Ganglion Cysts
Ganglion cyst
A ganglion cyst is a benign lump that is usually found in the tendons and joints of the wrists and hands. Ganglion cysts can also occur in the ankles and feet. Ganglion cysts are small lumps that contain thick fluid. The usual size of a ganglion cyst is about the size of a pea, or around 2.5mm. Depending on the location, ganglion cysts can be painful. This is especially true if the cyst presses on a nerve. Ganglion cysts usually go away on their own, without the need for medical attention. However, it is best to seek medical attention if the cysts are painful. Treatment includes a simple draining of the fluid with the use of a needle. In some cases, surgery may be needed.
