Oxytocic overview
Oxytocinergic
Oxytocinergic, or oxytocic, means "having to do with oxytocin (OXT)". For instance:
- Oxytocin Receptor (OXTR): The binding and activation site of oxytocin.
- 5-HT1A Receptor (5-HT1AR): A protein responsible for inducing the secretion of oxytocin.
- Obstetric: A type of drug that is sometimes, though not explicitly, oxytocinergic in action.
- Serotonergic: A drug which acts upon serotonin and 5-HT1AR, resulting in oxytocin release (e.g., MDMA ("Ecstasy").
- Tocolytic: Another kind of drug that can be oxytocinergic in mechanism.
The related term "uterotonic" is used to specifically refer to agents that induce contraction of the uterus.
